Dr. Kumar Praveen assumed charge as Consul General of India in Zanzibar in February 2023. He is a career diplomat and have joined the prestigious Indian Foreign Service (IFS) in 2012.

Before joining his current assignment as Consul General of India in Zanzibar, Dr. Praveen served in the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) as Deputy Secretary from September 2020 to December 2022. Prior to that, he was the Consul General of India in Sittwe, Myanmar from October 2016 to June 2020.

Dr. Praveen have been posted at the Embassy of India in Yangon, Myanmar from 2014 to 2016 as Third Secretary. At headquarters, he has worked in the Division for Bangladesh and Myanmar from 2013 to 2014.

Dr. Praveen is a medical degree holder from the Sarojini Naidu Medical College, Agra. He is married to Dr. Anita Kumari and they have a daughter.
